Dear Friends:
Not far from the
tabernacle in which we reserve the Most Holy Eucharist in our Parish Church
of St. Sebastian, is the precise geographic center of the five boroughs,
which comprise the City of New York. What a metaphor for the role of the
Church in the world – we are called to make Christ the center of our own
lives and the lives of all women and men. At the center of New York City is
Christ.
Welcome to the website of St. Sebastian
Roman Catholic Church, located at the intersections of 58th
Street, Roosevelt and Woodside Avenues. A busier street corner would be
hard to imagine, as would a racially, ethnically, linguistically more
diverse part of the city. This is as true a description of this thriving,
Catholic parish as you could have; it is a tremendously busy parish whose
population is wonderfully diverse.
Mass and the other sacraments are
celebrated regularly in two languages and all major parish celebrations are
multi-lingual. St. Sebastian is arguably the largest Catholic parish in the
diocese of Brooklyn, with approximately 5,000 people in attendance at
regular Sunday Masses. On major feasts, the number swells to more than
10,000. Many parishioners are recent immigrants but even the core parish
represents those who have come to the United States from many countries
throughout the world.
The parish school is among the best and
healthiest in the Diocese and we have a wonderful School of Religion and
parish Religious Education Program. Our Parish Center provides an excellent
opportunity for physical exercise and augments our first-rate C.Y.O.
Program.
If you would like to register in the
parish and begin receiving contribution envelopes, please drop by the
rectory and speak with one of the staff.
God Bless you and your family!
Sincerely in Jesus our Brother,
Michael J. Hardiman
